Your transfer to La Paz

La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur, on the Sea of Cortez about 190 kilometres north of the Los Cabos airport. It is a working city rather than a resort strip: a long malecón, a ferry port to the mainland, and the departure point for Espíritu Santo island and the whale shark season. It is also, by a wide margin, the longest transfer we run from SJD.

At this distance the transfer is a piece of the trip rather than an errand at the end of it, and that changes what is worth knowing. It is two-plus hours in one vehicle with no stops unless you ask for them, so tell us at booking if you want one — the halfway point through the sierra is a reasonable place to stretch, and a supermarket stop before arriving is common for people heading to a rental. La Paz also has its own airport with domestic connections; if you are weighing the drive against a connecting flight, the honest answer depends on your schedule, and a car that leaves when you land often beats a connection you have to wait for.

The route is either Highway 1 up the middle of the peninsula or Highway 19 along the Pacific through Todos Santos, and they are close enough in time that the choice is usually about what you want to see. Say if you would rather go via Todos Santos — it costs nothing to route it that way and it is a considerably better two hours.

FAQs about your La Paz transportation

How long is the drive from Los Cabos Airport to La Paz?

Around 190 km (118 miles), by either the inland highway or the Pacific route through Todos Santos. It is the longest transfer we run from SJD.

Can we stop on the way?

Yes — say so when you book. A stretch break partway and a supermarket stop before arriving are both normal requests and do not change the price.

Can you route us via Todos Santos?

Yes, at no extra cost. The two routes take a similar time and the Pacific one is the better drive.

Is the price per person?

No — per vehicle, like every route. On a trip this long that difference is at its largest for a group.
